Amy E. Ward

Amy Ward is a contemporary conceptual abstract expressionist with roots in education and wilderness leadership. Her work explores layered relationships—to self, others, and the land—through dualities: realism and abstraction, chaos and control, organic and geometric, the seen and unseen. She sees the intersection of these contrasts as the story itself.
Amy’s creative rocess follows two tracks. One is deeply personal, using art to calm or channel inner chaos by building imagined worlds. This track reflects her curiosity about how materials interact, shifting between impulsive gestures and carefully refined details. The second track is investigative, using visual language to explore social issues and the human condition. Recent works address motherhood, fertility, loneliness, and life during the pandemic.
Based in Idaho Springs, Colorado, Amy teaches at South Lakewood Elementary and holds degrees in visual art and art education. Her work is in U.S. and European collections. Learn more at amyeward.com.
