Eric Kruse

Woodworker, Artist, Storyteller
Signed in Wood
I’m Eric Kruse, a lifelong woodworker and artist who believes every piece of wood has a story waiting to be told. My journey started in my father’s woodshop, where I spent countless hours as a kid surrounded by the smell of sawdust and the hum of creativity. That early experience sparked a love for working with my hands, one that has stayed with me ever since.
Over the years, I’ve combined my passion for woodworking with a love for nature, storytelling, and sustainability. I work almost exclusively with reclaimed, salvaged, and recycled wood, letting each piece's natural textures, imperfections, and curves guide the design. No two pieces are the same, and that’s what I love most, every grain and knot becomes part of the final story.
My work is inspired by the rugged beauty of the natural world, towering trees, open landscapes, full moons, and the timeless charm of vintage Volkswagens. I also create custom pet portraits and abstract pieces, all carved by hand and finished with handmade stains. Whether I’m capturing the gaze of a beloved dog or the stillness of a forest, I aim to evoke connection, memory, and emotion.
Before moving to Golden, Colorado, I was part of a cooperative gallery in Flagstaff, Arizona, where I had the chance to showcase my art, collaborate with other creatives, and engage with the local community. That experience deepened my appreciation for shared artistic spaces and the value of connection through art.
Now, based in the foothills of the Rockies, I’m more inspired than ever. The landscape here feeds my imagination and pushes me to keep evolving as an artist. Through Signed in Wood, I hope to create pieces that speak to people, pieces that feel grounded, personal, and full of soul.
Thanks for stopping by. I’d love to hear from you if you’re curious about a custom piece, have a question, or just want to talk art and wood.
