Mark Flaningam

I’m a self-taught woodworker who learned through books, videos, and Norm Abram’s New Yankee Workshop. I’ve always been handy and drawn to beautiful wooden boxes at fairs. In the ’90s, my mother-in-law Bea gave me a secondhand table saw—the first box I made went to her. That marked the start of my woodworking journey.
With that saw and a few tools, I crafted gifts to improve my skills. After a while, family and friends had enough boxes and encouraged me to start selling. I began at craft shows, hoping to buy better tools. Soon, my shop was full of tools, and my work got better.
A friend invited me to join The Majestic Gallery, and I’ve been a member since 2014. My one-car garage, affectionately called “the G,” has been my workshop for over 20 years—no car in sight.
