Paul Thisted
I’m Paul Thisted, a Colorado oil painter working in the storytelling tradition of Russell and Remington. I fell in love with painting during college, but it wasn’t until after two careers—first in the Air Force, then teaching middle school—that I returned to art as a third and lasting pursuit.
I started with landscape workshops, then studied with renowned Russian colorist Ovanes Berberian, followed by workshops with Western artists like Carver, Case, and Santillanes. That journey led me to painting cowboys, horses, and the stories they carry—bringing together vibrant color, natural drama, and the enduring spirit of the American frontier.
Each painting captures a moment in time, inviting the viewer to join the story and experience the scene as an unfolding adventure.
I’m active in Shadow Mountain Gallery in Evergreen and The Majestic Gallery in Idaho Springs.
