The Faivre Building
Dennis Faivre was born in Pennsylvania in 1827. He caught the gold fever in 1859 and headed West to Colorado. He built the Currier and Faivre Mill in 1860 near Black Hawk Colorado. He returned east to get his family in 1861 then returned to Colorado. In 1862 he arrived in Idaho Springs and opened the first dry goods store in the district near the site of the present day Safeway store east of the business district. He built 1636 Miner Street that now houses the Majestic Gallery, in 1879 as a grocery store. Dennis Faivre was one of the leading merchants of Idaho Springs until his death in 1887. His grave marker is still in the Idaho Springs Cemetery.
